Horse-Powered Reading is a unique, experiential literacy program that pairs reading instruction with meaningful interaction with horses. Participants read aloud in the calm presence of a horse, creating a learning environment that feels safe, unrushed, and encouraging.

Horses offer something many traditional settings cannot: quiet attention without judgment. They do not correct, interrupt, or evaluate. This allows readers to relax, focus, and engage with language at their own pace—often resulting in noticeable gains in confidence and willingness to read.

The program supports key literacy skills including fluency, vocabulary development, comprehension, and expressive reading, while also nurturing emotional regulation, focus, and self-esteem. By removing performance pressure and replacing it with connection, reading becomes an experience of confidence rather than anxiety.

Horse-Powered Reading is well-suited for children and adults who may struggle in traditional academic environments, as well as for emerging readers who benefit from hands-on, relationship-based learning. Each session is intentionally designed to meet participants where they are—academically and emotionally—while fostering a genuine love for reading.
