Kiddy Up Ranch’s dedicated volunteer team is the backbone of our organization. You don’t need to have horse experience but you need to feel comfortable with the horses and be able to complete tasks independently. There are many areas in which volunteer assistance is appreciated: participating during classes as a horse handler or side walker, providing horse care, grounds maintenance, office duties and special events. Kiddy Up Ranch needs assistance 7 days a week and operates both mornings and afternoons. Ages 14 years and older.
"The heart of volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others"
Volunteer Opportunties:
Lesson Program Volunteers assist by leading horses or walking beside riders (sidewalking) during classes. Sidewalkers walk or trot by the side of the horse, assisting the students with his/her balance under the direction of the instructor. Horse leaders guide the therapy horse in walking, trotting, and halting during the lesson, under the direction of the instructor. Lesson program volunteers must commit to a consistent weekly schedule, coming the same day and time each week, which allows the development of a bond between the volunteer, student, and instructor. Arena assistant will help set the arena up for each class. Ensuring the arenas are mucked, and clean. This person will also assist the instructor in setting up and creating lesson plan activities.
Horse Care Volunteers work directly with barn staff to help feed and care for the horses and the facility. This work is suited to those interested in hands-on work with our horses and farm animals, or to high school or college students seeking internships or community service opportunities.
